How You See Jesus Is How You Will Receive

(Ome: Hey Benjamin Generation! Here are the sermon notes from last week’s sermon.

I pray the Lord gives you a fresh revelation of Himself today. Every time you behold Him, His beauty, His glory, His love, you are transformed, you are empowered to live the high life, the very life of God Himself!

Blessed week!)

Verses from the sermon:

2 Peter 1:3

3as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

1 John 2:13-14

13I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father. 14I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.

Mark 6:1-6

1Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him. 4But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” 5Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.

Genesis 3:1

1Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Matthew 26:25

25Then Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?” He said to him, “You have said it.”

Exodus 6:2-3

2And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD (yahweh)3And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH (yahweh) was I not known to them.

1 Samuel 17:46-47

46This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

John 8:56-59

56Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” 57Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” 58Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” 59Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Matthew 14:27 (AMP)

27But instantly He spoke to them, saying, Take courage! I AM! Stop being afraid!

Hebrews 13:8

8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Revelation 22:13

13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

Key take-home points:

  • How you receive from God is how you see Jesus. The greater your appreciation, the greater your reception. Jesus could not do many miraculous works in his hometown, because the people there saw him as a man, “Joseph’s son… his brothers are all here with us…” On the other hand, the Centurion had a revelation of Jesus’ authority and asked that Jesus not come all the way to his house but just speak the word, and he got exactly what he believed. What do you believe about Jesus? Do you see Him so big that there is nothing that He cannot overcome? Then you will see victory after victory in your life!
  • 1 John 2:13-14 represented stages of growth in Christian walk. The first stage, children, are those who know God as Father, because this is the foundation teaching for every Christian. Then we grow to the next stage, young men, and we are very into spiritual warfare, fighting the devil. Finally, we arrive at the final stage, fathers, someone who can supply others, because fathers have children! How do you become a father in your Christian walk? Not by doing more. But by knowing more. In verse 14 it says that it is those who know God has the One who is from the beginning, who are fathers. That speaks of a revelation of who God is.
  • Last but not least, the revelation of Yahweh:

Elohim, the creator God, is what He does — He is the Creator. But Yahweh is who He is: hands of grace, nailed in grace — He is the Redeemer. And to think that He embedded this in His name from the beginning, telling us from the very moment He introduced Himself Yahweh, that He would come and, with open hands of grace, be nailed in grace.

In closing, I would like to bring to you a revelation that really touched my heart some time back. When Jesus called Mary, “woman,” Mary did not know who He was, but when He called her by her personal name, “Mary,” that was when Mary knew it was Jesus. When Jesus first addressed her as woman, He addressed her as the Creator, but when He addressed her by name, it was as her Redeemer. Intimacy comes when you know Jesus as your Redeemer, who redeemed you, and crowned you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, so that today, you can walk with Him, and every time you look at Him, you see the adorable face smiling at you with love and favour.
