Spiritual Tidbits (11) – How to wait on the Lord?

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.-
    Isaiah 40:31

Psa. 27:14 Wait for the Lord; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.

Why is it so hard to wait on the Lord? Because, we are so prone to take matters into our own hands, to follow our own schemes.

We don’t like to wait and when we think of waiting we respond like, “Wait? That’s what made the bridge collapse!” Of course, that’s weight, not wait. But one of our needs in waiting on the Lord is the need to cast the weight of our burdens on Him.

The Hebrew word qavah is sometimes translated “hope” or “look expectantly,” and yacha, which means “to wait” can mean either “wait” or “hope.”
So put your weight on the Lord and wait on Him with hope and expectations of goodness!

Spiritual Tidbits (10) – Wretches delivered from the law and sin

19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Here Paul describes how our flesh is evil and no good works dwells in our flesh, and how our flesh will always be in conflict with our want to do good. How wretched, he wrote.

When I read this, I see my friends from other religions, and friends who tells me that without us following the law it is impossible to please God. The law makes us wretched. It’s that the reason why we age so fast, caught up in the rules of the world, getting in the rat races, trying to be good. as pastor Joshua said, evil and good comes from the same tree. If life is all bout shunning evil and doing good, we missed the gospel by miles. Because Romans 8 verse 1, is the famous NCC beloved verse says:

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…

Praise the Lord that we cannot be wretches any longer. 🙂

Spiritual Tidbits (9) – To the End

    1 Corinthians 1:8 (Amplified)

8And He will establish you to the end [keep you steadfast, give you strength, and guarantee your vindication; He will be your warrant against all accusation or indictment so that you will be] guiltless and irreproachable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

First, we will be strong and steadfast.
Second, we are vindicated as Jesus comes down to confirm the existence of God to all.
Third, we are guiltless from ALL accusation or indictment.
To the end, to the end.

Spiritual Tidbits (8) – What does God ask of us?

    John 6:28-30 Amplified Bible

“What are we to do, that we may habitually be working the works of God? What are we to do to carry out what God requires?” Jesus replied, this is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you BELIEVE in the One Whom He sent (that you cleave to, trust and rely on and have faith in His Messenger)

What are we boasting in today? Our works? How much money we have given? How many hours we spend in prayer? How many days we have fasted? How often we read the Bible? What ministry training we have received? What do we think qualifies us for the anointing of the Holy Spirit? Our “doing” or Jesus’ “done”? It’s the simple gospel. Don’t miss the mark.
BELIEF in Jesus is all God is asking of us. =)

Spiritual Tidbits (7) – The Ding Dong Bell of our Righteousness

    John 16:8-11 – The Holy Spirit’s Work
When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

Pastor Prince said before that his old church ( and apparently many churches) say that the Holy Spirit is a Ding Dong bell that reminds us of our sins at every step of our way.

My bible says the Holy Spirit is the alarm clock that bring us to remembrance of our righteousness in Jesus. He is here to convict the world of a singular sin – of not believing Jesus. So today, talk to your Father, talk to Jesus, talk to the Holy Spirit. Ask them to grant you the gifts that comes with your righteousness – that A grade, that 1st class honors, that great safe journey to HK, that enriching mission trip, that favor you want at work. And see if the Holy Spirit convicts you with the manifestations and fruits of the spirit. =)

Spiritual Tidbits (6) – What is love?

1 Corinthians 13:4: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

    8Love never fails…
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

To be honest, I m not patient, I m not kind, but I do boast and is proud of my good argumentative skills *ah hem*. I also keeps a soft copy hash-map of wrongs done to me with anger and trembling (beware). I do not always protect anyone, not even Min Huey ( on that roller coaster at USS, she was protecting me), and I never have everlasting hope for anything.

My point is, if this is love, NONE of us qualified as love. Thank God there is ONE Jesus who not only imparts faith, gives hope, but also perfectly kept the conditions of TRUE love.

1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us. =)

    Spiritual Tidbits (5) – The Sinner’s Doctor

Matt 9:12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

We all need a doctor. When we meet emergencies, He is our A&E. When we have a cold, He is our GP. When we got love-stuck or inconsolable, he is our counselor. When we are forgetful, He is our brain surgeon. He is the best doctor, I mean he even got divine Genetics certification by using the DNA of Adam’s ribs to make a whole and beautiful woman.
When we sin, He is our offering. He is the divine redeemer. The healer of all things. The doctor. Now you can meet Him in all things and worries and sicknesses and say: “What’s up, Doc?”

Spiritual Tidbits (4) – God judge sins, but love sinners.

    Genesis 18:25
That be far from you to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from you: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

Matt 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

God must judge sins, but He love the sinners.
Let it be known, God and Jesus hate sin, but sin does not matter in our salvation, because God love sinners, and He judge all our sins today and? forever on the cross. Sin have no dominion over us as we are under grace. Where sin abound, grace much more abound. Believers hate sin not because of the law, but because of grace. It’s a fruit of grace. =)

Spiritual Tidbits (3) – Rhythms of Grace

    Matthew 11:28-30 : Message bible:
“Are you tired?? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”

Sometimes we caught up in the moment of “what’s next?”. Stop asking “what’s next?”. Stop worrying about what to obey what not to obey from God. The ministry of the spirit is our leading force, it’s like riding a roller coaster: we can choose to go against the rhythm and get all tensed up, or we can just scream and have fun. ultimately, God will bring us to where we belong.

Spiritual Tidbits (2) – Who took the Cross?

“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake, shall find it.” Matt. 10:38,39.

    Romans 6:6 (NLT)
We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.

If someone quoted Matt 10:38, 39 and tells you to pick up the cross, have no fear. Paul said clearly that we are already crucified in Jesus. Meaning we got a free deal (a priceless deal) from Jesus with fringe benefits X 10,000. Not only did Jesus carried our cross for us, not only did He get nailed for us and gave lost His life for our sake, He also found life for us. He even paid the slave master (sin) to free us. Come on, Singaporeans (do me proud) knows a GREAT free deal when they see one – embrace his Love!
