    the veil removed

The heart of the Father and Jesus (Abraham and Isaac)
    Genesis 22:2;12

2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

The Father took His son, His only Son Jesus, whom He loves and offered him as a burnt offering for us. He laid His judgment on Jesus, exhausting all His holy anger towards sin on Jesus; so now we know that He loves us because He has not witheld His Son, His only Son, Jesus, from us.

The story was never meant to invoke obedience, it was always meant to reveal the Father’s heart of love towards us.

I like how The Message puts it, and I always remember Martin Smith quoting it in one of the albums Delirious recorded:

Only Christ can get rid of the veil so they can see for themselves that there’s nothing there.
Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.

      2 Cor 3:15-18 (The Message)

    More than enough

Even though we had to sit in the overflow and didn’t seem to make any real impacts apart from experiencing some very persistent chill from the air con, it was great going for service as a caregroup. Many a times, I don’t thank God enough for you guys and thank you guys for, well, you guys. So, for this Youth Day, I am going to give thanks for you guys (in no order of preference and sorry if I forgot you, I’m only human).

For mh, for always being so real about your challenges and your failings and never forgetting to thank God when He comes through.
For kf, for never being afraid to ask questions and share your heart.
For tb, for always being so engaged in the sermon. You encourage me to press in and stop being distracted.
For Colin, for freely serving God by blessing us with the many creative talents that God has placed in your life. You avail yourself to receiving more when you give.
For Jonah, your reliable strong arms (very important) and always being willing to help and not complaining when you are helping.
For Cecilia, for all the times you led us into the Holy of Holies and for helping me with the database sometimes (thereby encouraging my laziness)
For Bennie, for openly sharing with us even though you have only been here for a short while.
For Alicia, for your energy and your infective laughter (and of course, letting me call you dancing queen)
For Penny, for being involved even when you are always somewhere else and letting your life be a testament to the grace and favour that is poured forth by Jesus’ finished work.
For Ome, for your teachable heart that is open to receive. and God surely fills with more than enough.
For Sumitro, for sharing your journey with me and I am very encouraged to see how God has grown and expanded you (more to come).
For Belinda, for someone I can share everything with and being willing to follow even when your flesh violently fights against it.
For Helen, for entertaining my only occasional stupid antics and availing yourself to lead worship even when I always ask for songs you don’t know how to play. (its me, not you). and your never ending supply of sweets for service.

As I always say, it is my privilege to walk this journey with you and I thank God that I never have to pretend to be someone I’m not when I’m with you guys.

Why is everyone hungry for more? “More, more,” they say.
    “More, more.”
    I have God’s more-than-enough,
More joy in one ordinary day
    Psalm 4:6-7 (The Message)

I thank you, selene, for making the CG ever so interesting, so true, down to earth and always diverting our eyes back to Jesus – (used to think it was all in the paper, but now i realise otherwise, ha…) and of course, to have availed yourself to us to sometime just sit down to listen to our nonsensical rantings. thanks!

Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him]. For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].

    HM 2010

    Hello caregroupies,

thank you for a great camp. many enjoyable and funny moments. which i will one day tell people who wont even know you.

the last night where TB ignoring Helen’s question on whether the cup noodle was salty enough after she opened the packaging, boiled the water, poured it in, “cooked” it and handed the noodle to him. He didnt even hear her.

at the theme park where Colin, TB, Helen, Jonah and I were in the tea cup spinning our lives away. Till today, we still swear that the tea cup was going up and down. true story. and the loooooooong and tall bridge that was patched up with drain metal casings.

and Jonah who somehow manages to not be able to understand the rules of every single game we play.

and Alicia who kindly offered me the outside layer of her bun and ate the inside of mine because i like the outside and am neutral about the inside

of course not forgetting the guys who always help everyone to take soup, smoked salmon and tea.

we wont mention the names of the 2 specific people who are always hungry and manage to fill our table with plates and plates of food.

and thanks Colin for all the photos. im still curious as to how the chocolate mousse turned out in the photo.

and the “interesting” talk the girls had during the cluster breakout session

also, KF who joined us whenever he could and played stupid games with us

and helen who always entertains my wonderful ideas and for the sago-watermelon seed battle

and belinda who fell ill but still stayed up to join us till 6am on the last night.

well, the best moment was when Ome turned up with Coach Gary and Coach Lewis on the first night and we had to disband our “illegal” gathering. honestly, i was very tempted to pretend that we weren’t in the room.

and the precious close to 3 hours of worshipping while waiting for our coach. thanks to helen for the guitar and colin for the ukelele.

I assume that the photos will be up on facebook swifter than i can type this post. I will be posting my post-meditated sermon notes up on this page soon. and i would like for you guys to ask God to give you a verse to mediate upon that corresponds to the drawing you did in the afternoon. and if you would like to share, we will talk about it again during next CG!

    • colin 2:11 pm on June 21, 2010 Permalink

The photos are up. Actually I thought Coach Gary was the last night who asked us to leave the door open?

Wow I didn’t know we had 3 hours of worship while waiting, it felt like a flash! Wish we could do that again!

When’s the next CG? Looking forward to it!

    • selene 8:55 pm on June 21, 2010 Permalink

next CG is on this Friday! exciting times, with transformed people.

yeah, we were supposed to leave at 12noon so the cluster session ended at 11plus. we played the guitar and ukelele from 12 till our bus arrived at about 240pm? should totally do it again, i get to choose the songs? haha.

both nights it was coach gary and coach lewis.

    Restful increase and commanded blessings

a holy cow chews the cud

Rest Before Increase And Commanded Blessings

Our natural minds tell us that if we want increase, we need to work and strive for it. The last thing we want to do is rest. But God’s way is rest before increase. God told the Israelites to rest the land for one year after they have cultivated it for six years. Some of the farmers must have thought: “What are we going to eat in the seventh or eighth year if we don’t work the land in the seventh year?” Maybe you are asking the same question: “How can there be increase if I rest?”

What is God’s answer? “… I will command My blessing on you in the sixth year, and it will bring forth produce enough for three years.” (Leviticus 25:21) God told the Israelites that He will make sure that they are so blessed in the sixth year that there will be enough produce for the next three years! My friend, when you observe God’s principle of rest, be it in your business, career, ministry or family life, you will not lose out. In fact, you will gain more than if you had not rested! You will have God’s commanded blessing. When He “commands” it, you will surely get it. Whatever is in the way will be removed!

    Do It God’s Way

So rest brings God’s commanded blessing. With rest comes increase. That’s God’s way. Now, I am not talking about sitting at home and doing nothing. Remember that rest is simply being yoked with Jesus and flowing with Him. It is Spirit-directed activity, not inactivity.

Beloved, be yoked with Christ, flowing with Him in the unforced rhythms of grace, and find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29, The Message) The principle of restful increase you have learnt here will bless you in every area of your life. May 2010 be a year of restful increase for you!

This is an excerpt taken from Pastor’s post on restful increase.

i know that some of you have not experience the restful increase in terms of your academic grades. God’s Word for this year is simple and is still true despite that. 2010 is the year of restful increase for you and as you flow with Jesus, be yoked with Him, God commands the increase to manifest in your life.

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He has come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which they are girded.
