Faith Is Superior To The Law

(Ome: Hey Beloveds! Here are the sermon notes from last week’s sermon.

I don’t know about you, but it deeply comforts me to know that we don’t have to have it all together to receive from God. We simply have to believe it and speak it, and we will receive it. Jesus has paid for all the blessings!

Be blessed, and have an awesome week!)

10 July Sunday Service

Preached by Pastor Prince

2nd Service

Verses from the sermon:

Luke 4:18

18“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Luke 4:24-30

24Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. 25But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; 26but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.” 28So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. 30Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.

Galatians 4:21-26,28-30

21Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? 22For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. 23But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, 24which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar– 25for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children– 26but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 29But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. 30Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” 31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.

Galatians 4:9

9But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?

Psalm 105:37

37He also brought them out with silver and gold, And there was none feeble among His tribes.

Galatians 3:29-4:7

29And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

1Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, 2but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. 3Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. 4But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons (huios – full grown sons)6And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Galatians 3:9-12

9So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. 10For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” 11But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” 12Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.”

Matthew 27:26-30

26Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified. 27Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him. 28And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. 29When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.

Key take-home points:

  • When Jesus walked on this earth, He was not looking for obedience, but for faith. He is attracted to faith, not obedience. He is not impressed by obedience. There were people who obviously didn’t have it all together, who received from Jesus. They received not because of their obedience or their character, but because of their faith. It comforts me, because it tells me that I don’t have to have it all together to receive from Jesus; simply believe it and speak it, and I will receive!
  • Your blessings are paid for. See your blessings paid for. Do you know when your healing is done? It is not done when you pray hard enough. Your healing is done when the whip fell on Jesus’ back. By Jesus’ stripes, you are healed. The moment the lashes fell on His back, your healing is a done deal. Don’t focus on your lying symptoms. Look to the payment. It is done! The pain may still be there in the natural, but to God, the healing is sent!
  • Jesus never chided His disciples for their behaviour. He never chided His disciple for little praying. His constant chiding to the one He loves has always been, “O, you of little faith,” which means, hey, I’m God, I’m so big, why do you take so little from me? He loves to give you. His priority is not that you have better character, better charity. All these things are not priority; they are by-products, fruits. He wants you to take from Him. Take from Him not just prosperity and health, but also the grace and strength to stand on higher moral ground, strength to be secure in His love and trust Him for a life partner and a satisfying relationship. Take, take, and take some more!
